Quickstart

Start taking payments in Iceland with Kling. Sign up, get a test key straight away and take your first test payment, with or without writing code.

Kling is a payments platform for businesses in Iceland. You can take card payments, Apple Pay and Google Pay, send payment links, run subscriptions and send online bank claims (kröfur), all in Icelandic krónur (ISK). This page gets you from nothing to a working test payment.

1. Create an account

Sign up at kling.is/signup. It takes a few minutes and costs nothing. The test environment opens the moment you sign up: you can set everything up and try it without any real money moving.

Your test API key (sk_test_...) is ready on the API Keys & Docs page in the dashboard.

2. Pick your path

You want to Do this
Get paid without a website or code Create a payment link in the dashboard and send it
Charge members or customers every month Set up subscriptions with a subscription link, no code needed
Collect through the customer's online bank Send online bank claims
Add payments to an app you build with AI Follow the guide for your tool: Lovable, Bolt, Replit, v0, Cursor or Claude Code
Integrate with your own code Read on

3. Take a test payment with the API

The fastest start is the Kling CLI. Run it in the root of your project:

bash
npx @klingis/cli init

It signs you in, writes your test key to .env.local, can set up a webhook and writes a KLING_INTEGRATION.md prompt for your AI editor. See SDKs and tools.

Or call the API directly. This creates a checkout session for 1.000 kr.:

bash
curl -X POST https://api.kling.is/v1/checkout/sessions \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer sk_test_your_key_here" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -H "Idempotency-Key: $(uuidgen)" \
  -d '{
    "amount": 1000,
    "currency": "ISK",
    "success_url": "https://example.is/thanks"
  }'

The response has a url. Open it, pay with the test card 4111 1111 1111 1111 (any future expiry date, any CVC), and you are sent back to your success_url. Use 4000 0000 0000 0002 to see a declined card.

Things to know from day one

  • Amounts are whole krónur. ISK has no decimals, so 1000 is 1.000 kr. Never multiply by 100.
  • Test and live are separate. Test keys, customers and payments never mix with live ones.
  • Keep the secret key on your server. It must never appear in browser code.
