For business owners and developers in Iceland

Payments API for Iceland

Kling is a payments API for Iceland. Take card payments, subscriptions and online bank claims (kröfur) in Icelandic krónur, from your own code, from an app you build with AI, or with no code at all.

Stripe does not onboard businesses in Iceland. Kling does: sign up in a few minutes, get test keys straight away, and take real payments once your account is verified.

Stripe doesn't onboard Icelandic businesses. Kling does.

Iceland is not on Stripe's list of supported countries (checked October 2026), so a business registered in Iceland can't open a Stripe account. The usual answer, "just use Stripe", stops there.

Kling is made in Iceland for businesses in Iceland. We apply to the card acquirer on your behalf and handle the correspondence, and payouts go to your own bank account.

How to start taking payments in Iceland

  1. 1

    Create an account

    Sign up at kling.is. It's free and takes a few minutes.

  2. 2

    Try it in test mode

    The test environment opens the moment you sign up. Set everything up and try it without any real money moving.

  3. 3

    Choose how you get paid

    Send a payment link, set up subscriptions, send online bank claims, or connect your website or app to the API. Payment links and subscriptions need no code.

  4. 4

    Go live

    Apply in the dashboard. Kling applies to the card acquirer for you, and card payments go live when the acquirer approves. Online bank claims can be approved first.

What you can take

  • Card payments

    Visa and Mastercard: online, by payment link, or in person with Kling POS.

  • Apple Pay and Google Pay

    Customers can pay with Apple Pay or Google Pay in the checkout.

  • Subscriptions

    Charge weekly, monthly or yearly, with a billing portal where customers update their card and manage their subscription.

  • Online bank claims (kröfur)

    The claim appears in the payer's online bank. Good for invoices, membership fees and business customers.

  • Icelandic krónur

    Amounts are whole krónur. ISK has no decimals, so 1000 means 1.000 kr.

  • Icelandic and English

    The checkout is shown in Icelandic or English, set by you or by the buyer's browser.

Test right away, go live after verification

The moment you sign up

  • The whole dashboard: payment links, subscriptions, products, customers, Kling POS and online bank claims.
  • A test API key (sk_test_...) and the full API, SDKs, CLI and MCP server.
  • Test card payments.

No verification, no card and no contract needed.

After verification

  • Apply to go live in the dashboard: company details, bank account for payouts, and what you sell.
  • Card payments: the card acquirer approves the application. How long it takes depends mostly on how quickly the paperwork comes in.
  • Online bank claims: you sign the claims agreement in the application, so you can start sending claims before cards are approved.
  • Then create a live key (sk_live_...) and swap it in. Nothing else in your code changes.

5-minute quickstart

Run the Kling CLI in the root of your project. It signs you in, writes your test key to .env.local, can register a webhook and writes a prompt for your AI editor.

npx @klingis/cli init

Or call the API directly. This creates a checkout session for 1.000 kr.; open the url in the response and pay with a test card.

curl -X POST https://api.kling.is/v1/checkout/sessions \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer sk_test_your_key_here" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "amount": 1000,
    "currency": "ISK",
    "success_url": "https://example.is/thanks"
  }'

Build it with AI

Building in Lovable, Bolt, Replit, v0, Cursor or Claude Code? Copy this prompt into your tool. It points the AI at Kling's quickstart for agents and asks it to pick the right path for your business.

LovableBoltReplitv0CursorClaude Code

  • MCP server

    Let Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other agents create checkouts and payment links and read payments on your account. Hosted at https://api.kling.is/mcp, or run it locally with npx @klingis/mcp.

  • CLI

    npx @klingis/cli init sets up your keys and webhooks. kling listen forwards webhooks to localhost while you develop.

  • SDKs

    @klingis/sdk is a typed server SDK. @klingis/embed opens the Kling checkout on top of your own page.
